In 1982, Russ made a 35-minute, 16mm movie called Rhino With Aqualung. He shot it in Little Point Sable, Michigan, using friends and family as the actors. It is based on the antics of a friend and the themes of alcoholism, family, and WWII.

Russ Schneider was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He taught composition at the University of Florida for many years, after receiving a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Florida and an undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo college.
